Blue Hills Trails report:

Spring Has Sprung - watch for freeze/thaw cycles that produce fast morning conditions after an overnight freeze. Sun exposed trails may have a fast crust until temps rise and the sun hits the trails. Try to catch the magic window between icy conditions and sun warmed sticky trails. It's time to switch to your 'B' skis - south facing hills have started developing some thin spots.

-Be sure to visit their website or Facebook page for more trail conditions.

I absolutely positively do not want to let go of this season for the following reasons: It is not half as much fun to work here when the chalet isn't full of happy. I feel like I didn't have enough time to make all of the changes I wanted to make this season. I don't want to put my skis away for the season (yes me!!!!). The 2022/2023 Season is tentatively 250 long days away.

We live in Wisconsin which pretty much guarantees us at least one Spring snow dump after Mother Nature has abolished our snow base which means I will soon have to break the hearts of dozens of super optimistic snow enthusiasts with hopes of getting out there just one more time.

Most importantly, I am going to miss seeing you all every weekend. Whether you are a member of our amazing staff or one of our fabulous customers you are hard to let go of and I hope I get the chance to work with you and for you again. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this season in one way or another.

Snow and Trail Conditions Update

March 10, 2022 5:13 pm Published by

As of 3/10/22:

North half of county is holding up pretty good. South half showing more dirt but still good riding out there. Ladysmith north and east trails looking great. Hawkins groomed everything except from warming shack to Flambeau Lodge. Expect that to be done before the weekend. Bruce, Weyerhaeuser and Sheldon have not been out this week yet.

From Ladysmith Driftbusters (3/8/22):

Just did a 30-mile loop to check things out. City of Ladysmith has 5 blocks of alley riding that is bare. North-south is not as bad and east-west is passable but it will test your carbides. Trail 12 (high line) from Ladysmith to Flambeau Lodge is Very Good with few minor sun spots. Trail 99 from Flambeau Lodge to Tony is Excellent. Trail 116 from Tony to Ladysmith is Excellent. Trail 12/27 from Ladysmith to Trail 12 (high line) has a lot of dirt. It always sucks, we know, but it's only a mile. We'll try to come up with a solution to improve it next year. Somehow we escaped with hardly any rain damage. Trails are flat, fast and firm. I highly recommend studs and scratchers. For perspective I run a 600 Ski-doo with 1.25" track and 96 studs. My engine was running 120-128 degrees tonight. I normally run 102-106 degrees. I did not put scratchers down but 800/850 riders might want them. Groomers will be out all day and night tomorrow to touch things up and loosen up that top crust. We have 5 phenomenal final days of trail riding ahead of us before a full forecast of upper 40s!

(3/9/22): North loop done! Heading to Ingram! Scraped that ice glaze off but still recommend studs and scratchers. Trails are flat and firm. Please watch your speed! Very easy to get carried away!

-Please check the Ride Rusk page for confirmation on your trail routes and for updates on trail maintenance and grooming.

Cross Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

There should be decent skating conditions on the East Side today (check the 'Grooming Report'). On trails not recently groomed for skate skiing, the base underlying a 1-inch topping of snow is icy but skiable - especially if you wait for rising temps and sunshine to help soften the base. For skate skiers, it's a bit of a challenge to get an edge on the ungroomed trails. The old classic track is in pretty good shape throughout the trail system and offers nice striding - although it's glazed where it's received traffic.

Spring skiing - watch for freeze/thaw cycles that produce fast morning conditions after an overnight freeze. Sun exposed trails may have a fast crust until temps rise and the sun hits the trails. Try to catch the magic window between icy conditions and sun warmed sticky trails.

Look at the important updates on their website for a discussion regarding logging on the East Side of the trail system.

-Be sure to visit their website or Facebook page for more trail conditions.

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

With the new snow last night the groomers were out in force today. Jim groomed the East side trails for skiing and reports they are in excellent shape. Dave groomed the West side this afternoon for skiing, fat tire biking and snowshoeing. With tonight's colder temps. the trails should all set up well and be firm and fun for the weekend. Get out and enjoy some winter fun on the trails. Remember please no hiking on groomed trails without snowshoes. Bikers and snowshoers be respectful of the set ski tracks when out on the trails.

Gotta love March in Wisconsin! A big thank you to everyone who had faith enough to come out today after a full day of rain Saturday. Snow and Trail Conditions Update

March 8, 2022 3:54 pm Published by

As of 3/8/22:

County trails are open with occasional closures. Trails remain OPEN. We have not yet had time to inspect all of them. Expect icy corners, dirt, slush and braches/debris. Trails vary but generally are 80% good with some fair and poor spots. At this time notable known bad sections are the ally through Ladysmith, I-Bridge (road is bare and lake is slushy), and the 1 mile stretch from Hwy 27 to the Highline. 2 - one mile stretches of logging on Trail 12 between Flambeau Lodge and Hawkins Warming Shack. Along Hwy 8 on the west side of Bruce is pretty bare too. Any others? Please put it in the comments! Use common sense. Ride defensively. Expect heavy traffic this weekend as many try to squeeze last ride in. Next week's forecast has a lot of 40s in it. More updates to follow throughout the week.

-Please check the Ride Rusk page for confirmation on your trail routes and for updates on trail maintenance and grooming.

Cross Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

Ice, rain and snow over the weekend. Very icy conditions early Monday morning. Skiers Monday afternoon reported fairly decent conditions as temps in the low 30s and sunshine helped Sunday's 1-inch snowfall begin bonding to the underlying icy base. If in doubt, hold off on skiing until we are able to groom (probably grooming Wednesday evening). Spring skiing - we've started freeze/thaw cycles that produce fast morning conditions after an overnight freeze. Sun exposed trails have a fast crust until temps rise and the sun hits the trails. Try to catch the magic window between icy conditions and sun warmed sticky trails. Snow and Trail Condition Updates

March 2, 2022 9:48 pm Published by

As of 3/2/22:

County trails are open with occasional closures. All Rusk Co trails got absolutely hammered yesterday. Thank you all who made Rusk Co your riding destination! It was awesome to see so many sleds in our area. There are a few groomers out this morning trying to pick up the pieces.

Why were some trails rough this weekend? Obviously a ton of traffic but also it was 45 degrees last Sunday so we couldn't clean up Saturday's moguls before we got 8" of snow. So most trails only got 1 pass over it did not have time cut moguls or to set up as good as we wished. Trails should hold up better after next couple passes as we work new snow in and they have some time to setup!

-Please check the Ride Rusk page for confirmation on your trail routes and for updates on trail maintenance and grooming.

Blue Hills Trails report:

Wednesday's bright sunshine highlighted the new snow and made for great snowshoeing. Nice way to keep the muscles moving while waiting for the ski trails to firm up.Grooming Report / PlansGroomers focused on the East Side trails Tuesday and Wednesday. Quality rather than quantity. The many trails that were rolled Tuesday during the snowstorm received finish grooming Wednesday afternoon. The snow was working well (a reflection of temps, humidity, and cooperative snow crystals). The little bit of classic track I saw yesterday was deep and crisp. If the skate lane is still a bit soft today, it'll soon receive more grooming. Next step is to start grooming the new snow on the West Side trails. Good luck to all our Birkie skiers!

County trails are open with occasional closures. Stop in for the Bruce Blue Hills Trailblazers Annual Fundraiser for food and raffles at the Bruce Fire Hall from 12-4pm.

From the Ladysmith Driftbusters (Ladysmith): Aside from 12/27 on the north side of town which is tight, narrow and gets hammered with traffic; our trails have a couple icy corners but generally are very good to excellent. Be very careful if riding on Dairyland Flowage. WRA plowed more roads and with the drifting the last few days they are extremely difficult to see.

Blue Hills Trails report:

Packed powder skiing, good skating and striding. On the East Side, the Core Loop is quite firm, the side trails are a little soft. On the West Side, Excelsior Road and the East/West crossover trail are mostly firm. The rest of the West Side is a bit soft and would benefit from another grooming pass.

Most of the East Side trails include classic track. On the West Side, classic track is present on Excelsior Road, and the East/West crossover trail (A-B-J-K-L-23). One of our grooming machines (our workhorse snowmobile) is in the shop for repairs, and until it returns, our Honda UTV will focus our grooming on the most frequently traveled trails.

Snow and Trail Conditions Update

February 10, 2022 9:09 pm Published by

As of 2/10/22:

County trails are open with occasional closures. Come on up! We are wide open! 90% of trails have been groomed at least once this week. Groomers will be out tomorrow working new snow in too! Bruce, Hawkins, Ladysmith and Weyerhaeuser were running groomer hard yesterday. Nearly every trail has been groomed since the weekend except Sheldon and the Island Lake area -- pretty thin on the south half of the county. It looks like we may have dodged the warm weather bullet. Highest temp I saw in Ladysmith today was 33 and its starting to cool back down. Forecasts appear to have removed any breaks above freezing and even added some accumulating snow to the forecast later in the week. We have had tremendous turn outs to Rusk Co club fundraisers this year. Let's keep it rolling and pack Shep's Northshore Bar & Campground this Saturday 2/12 for the Neighborly Sno-Goers Snowmobile Club Chicken Dinner!

-Please check the Ride Rusk page for confirmation on your trail routes and for updates on trail maintenance and grooming.

Cross Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

Today's skiers enjoyed 0.5"-1" powder topping the trails.

On the East Side trails, skating conditions today were very good to excellent. The classic track was set 10 days ago and was in good shape other than a few sections where it was heavily drifted.

On the West Side trails, conditions on the north half are good. Excelsior Road (West Side) is in good condition - even though the snow cover on the east half mile of Excelsior Road has been thin, you can use your good skis the full length of Excelsior Road.

98% of the East Side trails are open and groomed for skating; we try to place classic track on more than 3/4 of the East Side trails. On the West Side, all the available trails are groomed for skating and classic skiing.

-Be sure to visit their website or Facebook page for more trail conditions.

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

From Ladysmith Driftbusters (Ladysmith): WRA is plowing roads on Dairyland Flowage. They are extremely difficult to see on sled. Ride with extra caution. Groomers will be out all day today trying to clean up after the weekend. Some forecasts project us being closer to 40 on Tuesday. If that's the case the groomer will be parked until it cools down. Our trails are not closing but please try not to ride them if we're above freezing. If you must ride them please please please ride gently. We need to preserve what we have because apparently, it's not going to snow anymore this year!

From Flambeau Area Trail Tenders Snowmobile Club (Flambeau): Just a friendly reminder. ALL Chippewa County trails closed at 8 am this morning. THIS INCLUDES OUR STUB TRAILS OFF OF LAKE HOLCOMBE, TO LOONY BIN, BIG MINNOW AND CENEX AND COOKIES, AND TO BLACK BEAR! If we do not lose too much snow tomorrow, we will reopen the stub trails on Friday morning. Please check back for updates. Until then, please stay off the trails in Chippewa county. Thank You

Grooming Report
Last evening we used our trail leveler (a specialized grooming implement) to smooth the skate deck on part of the East Side. Its aggressive teeth and frame were used to attack the center crown, undulations, and uneven spots on part of the Core Loop from 1-2-3-4-5-6, and the Otter Slide / Far East trails. Then out came our big G2 (a finishing implement) to make things pretty again.

Blue Hills Trails report:

A stiff wind deposited a mild amount of trail litter the past 24 hours - most noticeable when skiing through sections of trails bordered by pines or hemlocks - but all things considered, quite tolerable. The trail litter adds to the challenge: flick-a-stick as you ski, it'll challenge your eye-hand coordination. On the East Side trails, skating conditions are very good. The classic track is fairly deep, firm, and fast.

On the West Side, conditions on the north half are good. Excelsior Road (West Side) is in good to very good condition - the snow cover on the east half mile of Excelsior Road is thin, but you can use your good skis the full length of Excelsior Road.

99% of the East Side trails are open and groomed for skating; more than 3/4 of the East Side trails are groomed for classic skiing. On the West Side, the north half of the West Side is groomed for skating & classic skiing - and Excelsior Road is groomed for skating and and classic skiing.

From Hawkins Sno-Hawks (Hawkins): Trails are looking good for the sno-hawks brat feed this weekend

Conditions on the East Side trails are very good. The skate deck is in great shape. Fresh classic track was set on the Core Loop Tuesday midday. More classic track will be added to the East Side on Thursday evening after winds die down.

Grooming Report

Logging operations on the West Side were completed one week ago. With the powder snowfalls from this past weekend as working material, groomers worked last evening (Wednesday), opening more West Side trails. The following comments relate to the above map.

  • Trails highlighted in GREEN are in good shape. This includes classic track that has a couple inches of powder snow. The East/West crossover trail connects to the GREEN trails.
  • Trails highlighted in PINK were groomed for the first time yesterday. They have a thin snow cover and some dirt spots. Use your rock skis on the PINK trails.
  • Trails highlighted in YELLOW have a thin snow cover, hidden tire ridges (rocks and dirt) from recent logging, and need more snow before we want to groom those trails.
  • Trails highlighted in BLUE were groomed for the first time yesterday. This is the west portion of Excelsior Road (it measures 2+ kilometers) where the accumulated snow was subject to vehicle traffic up until one week ago. Groomers ripped into that base last evening, performing multiple passes to whip it into skiable conditions. The results are probably rough but skiable.

To access the West Side trails, you have 4 options:

  1. Park at the warming house, and ski from 1-26-25-24-23, then use the crossover trail 23-L-K-J.
  2. Park at Letter L along the Fire Lane Road. Park well to the side, and avoid blocking the crossing where the groomers travel.
  3. Park at the east end of Excelsior Road where it meets the Fire Lane Road. A large snow berm is blocking Excelsior Road. There should be enough room for several cars to park next to the berm. Avoid blocking the path where the groomers must travel.
  4. Park at the warming house, and walk the short distance to Excelsior Road before putting on your skis.

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

Sisters farm trail report. Jim groomed the skate lane on the East side and looks good. We did not have enough snow to redo the track on either side of the road. Dave groomed the west side trails for bikes and snowshoeing and should be excellent for fat bikes. Track needed to be skied in but should also be good.  Enjoy!

Blue Hills Trails report:

Lovely cold January day in the Hills yesterday. Bluebird sky, fresh powder, quiet skis, winds in the treetops, woodpeckers hammering, crows talking. When you stop to appreciate your surroundings, it really isn't a silent sport, is it?

Grooming Report

  • Groomers rolled (packed) the East Side trails yesterday afternoon & evening.
  • We received several dry powder snowfalls this past weekend, groomers packed the powder snow across the width of the trails, and this included wiping out the classic track on the East Side trails.
  • The West Side trails were not groomed yesterday and still have 2-3 inches of powder snow and a well defined classic track.

Grooming Plans

  • If he can tolerate today's subzero temps, our head groomer hopes to reset classic track on the East Side Core Loop this afternoon.
  • Holding off on setting more classic track on the East Side trails until after windy conditions decrease later this week. That way we'll have a fresh track with minimal oak leaves, pine needles, etc.
  • Based on the weather forecast, Thursday evening would be a good time to set new classic track.

Cross-Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

Adequate base, you can use your good skis. With several dustings of snow this past week, skiing has been very good and hasn't required fresh grooming - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." All the East Side trails are open and groomed for skating; about 75% of the East Side trails are being groomed for classic skiing. The north half of the West Side is groomed.

East Side: firm, fairly fast skating conditions with good edge control; classic conditions are very good. Anticipate some trail litter as a result of brisk winds January 18/19.

West Side: the north half was groomed January 19th with plans to set classic track.

West Side logging was completed January 18th. Until snow builds up where the West Side logging was performed, you can access the West Side at Letter L. (West Side access currently is limited due to bare ground on certain ski trails - READ THE IMPORTANT UPDATES INFO section).

-Be sure to visit their website or Facebook page for more trail conditions.

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

Sisters farm was all groomed today and is great shape. Skiing, snowshoeing, fat tire biking are all a go. Get out and enjoy. Remember skiing only on East side trails, skiing, snowshoe and bikes on the west side trails. As always please no hiking on groomed trails without snowshoes.

As of 1/18/22:

County trails are open with occasional closures. Please check the Ride Rusk page for confirmation on your trail routes and for updates on trail maintenance and grooming.

From Ladysmith Driftbusters (Ladysmith): as of Friday 1/14/2022 all Driftbuster trails have been groomed this week. Trails are all rated as FAIR. They are still thin. The warm weather and extra passes with the groomer brought up a few dirt spots. It's unlikely that we'll get any snow today or tomorrow but there is some in the forecast for early next week. There are spots where our trails are great, smooth and fast. However, until we get more snow, EARLY SEASON HAZARDS CONTINUE TO EXIST. Ride appropriately.

Cross-Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

Adequate base, you can use your good skis. All the East Side trails are open and groomed for skating; about 80% of the East Side trails are being groomed for classic skiing. The north half of the West Side is currently open and groomed for skating.

East Side: firm, fairly fast skating conditions with good edge control; classic conditions are very good to excellent.

West Side: first grooming of the season was Wednesday & Thursday - it set up like a brick. Fair skating conditions (the skate deck is still a bit rough and needs another grooming). Classic track will probably be added during the next grooming of the West Side. Until the West Side logging is done, you can access the West Side at Letter L. (West Side access currently is limited due to logging - READ THE IMPORTANT UPDATES INFO section). West Side logging is supposed to be done by January 21st.

Cross-Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

1/13/22 update: Very good to excellent skate skiing conditions on the East Side trails yesterday (Wednesday). Tuesday evening's grooming created a really nice corduroy that is now morphing toward a sugar snow consistency. Firm flat surface with great edge control. The grooming on Tuesday evening also included a fresh high quality track on the Otter Slide / Far East network of trails. Groomers spent Wednesday evening removing downed trees, limbs and branches -- and rolling (packing) the West Side trails that are not subject to logging traffic. This included the crossover trail (starting at intersection #23 on the East Side then heading west to letters L-K-J). And the trails on the northern half of the West Side. Refer to the above map that shows where loggers are still hauling logs to market. The trails rolled (groomed) last evening will hopefully firm up overnight, and offer partial access to the West Side trails.Until the West Side logging is done (soon we hope), you can access the groomed trails on the West Side by

  1. starting at the warming house, follow the Core Loop to #23, then ski the crossover trail; or
  2. park and start at Letter L where the crossover trail crosses the Firelane Road. Be sure to park well off the road and leave plenty of room for logging trucks!!!

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

Cross-Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

1/11/22 update: 3.5" snowfall last Wednesday. Despite cold temps and nasty windchills following that snowfall, our groomers had 98% of the East Side in good shape for the weekend. The Core Loop was in very good shape Saturday.

Packed powder conditions, adequate base, you can use your good skis. All the East Side trails are open and groomed for skating. The main trails are firm and mostly smooth, the side trails are a bit soft but very skiable. Classic track was set Friday on these East Side trails: Core Loop, Whitetail, Roundabout, and the lower half (west half) of Hemlock Canyon. That's about 15 km of classic track. The track is a bit shallow, and in certain areas the track has some scattered oak leaves and pine needles thanks to Friday night's brisk winds. Despite those negatives, the classic track is currently graded as good to very good.

Some of the West Side trails were packed (rolled) for the first time on December 30th. They're probably soft but probably skiable if you're interested in 'bushwhacking'. Until the West Side logging is done, you can access the West Side at Letter L. (West Side access currently is limited due to logging - READ THE IMPORTANT UPDATES INFO section). West Side logging is supposed to be done by January 21st. Until then, we're focusing our skiing (and trail reports) on the East Side trails.

Snow and Trail Condition Updates

January 6, 2022 11:43 am Published by

As of 1/6/22:

Snowmobile Trails

County trails are expected to open on Friday the 7th at 8am, but please check the Ride Rusk page for confirmation.

Please read in entirety. All Rusk County trails have a TENTATIVE OPENING for 8:00am Friday, January 7, 2022. An official announcement will be made in the coming days. I hope this early information assists locals and tourists alike in making weekend plans. Please consider choosing to ride locally and supporting our local businesses. Groomers are expected to be out in full force both day and night to prepare trails. Some trails may still not be groomed by Friday morning. Hazards may still exist until the groomer has been through a few times. Ride in anticipation of potential rough spots, brush, sticks and stones. As your comfort and skill allows, please try to avoid single tracking and pack the trail wide to assist in building a more solid base for a long season of smooth riding. Lastly, please consider joining a local club. All Rusk Co. clubs are inundated with work that needs to be done and not enough people/time to do it. If you come across signs that are covered by brush stop and clear them out. If you see a rock in the trail try to remove it. Break some branches, clear a little brush and pick up or wipe off a sign. To beat a dead horse, stay on the damn trail and take your loud exhaust off. Snowmobilers are unique to the recreation world where we cross tons of private property by the grace of generous landowners. ATVs, hunters, and hikers don't get that privilege. Without private landowner permission our 300+ miles of trails would shrink to about 50 miles of county land and ditch riding. Lastly, save the drunken shenanigans for after the sled is parked for the night. 70% of Wisconsin snowmobile fatalities involve an intoxicated operator. It takes all of us to project a positive public image in making Rusk County a premier snowmobiling destination.

Cross-Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

1/6/22 update: 3.5" snowfall yesterday - nasty wind chills limited the amount of grooming that was performed yesterday (Wednesday). Conditions now will be soft until more grooming is done.

The new snow sits on an adequate base. With just a bit of caution you can use your good skis. All the East Side trails are open. With repetitive grooming, the trails had firmed up nicely before Wednesday's new snow.

Some of the West Side trails were packed (rolled) for the first time on December 30th. They'll be soft but probably skiable if you're interested in 'bushwhacking'. Until the West Side logging is done, you can access the West Side at Letter L. (West Side access currently limited due to logging- Read the important updates info section). West Side logging is supposed to be done by January 21st. Until then, we're focusing our skiing (and trail reports) on the East Side trails.

-Be sure to visit their website or Facebook page for more trail conditions.

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

12/29/21 update: All trails at Sisters farm have been groomed and tracks set. East side for both skate and track skiing, West side tracked for skiing and Fat bike/snowshoe rolling complete. With the cold temps planned tonight the trail should set up well. Please remember the East side trails are for skiing and the West side for track skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing. When snowshoeing please do not hike on the tacked snow for skiing also please do not hike on the groomed trails without snowshoes, It potholes the trail and makes it difficult for other trail users. Get out and enjoy.

-For more updates, check out the Ladysmith Area Trail Association Facebook page.

Christie Mountain

1/2/22 update: These snowmakers have just pushed more than 20 million gallons of water onto our slopes in a mere 392.5 hours. (For the record: they got the job done this season with the least amount of snowmaking hours and in the shortest time frame compared to any other snowmaking season at Christie which is no small feat!). These men have officially finished snowmaking and we should be 100% this Saturday!!

As of 1/4/22:

Snowmobile Trails

Some county trails are starting to open.

From Bluehills Trailblazers (Bruce) 12/30/21:

-Trail 12 from the Chippewa River and the Village of Bruce is legal to ride. This is the only segment of trail that is being opened at this time. This is not an endorsement to ride the Chippewa River. Never assume the ice is safe just because there are tracks on it. Conditions can change constantly.

From Bluehills Trailblazers (Bruce) 1/2/2022:

Trail OPENING north of Hwy 8.

Early season conditions. Hazards may be prevalent. Ride safely at you're own discretion.

- Trail 31 from Bruce to warming shelter and to Sawyer County Snowmobile ATV Alliance, Birchwoodbobcatriders is groomed and in fair condition.

- Trail 12 from Bruce to JS Supper Club & Catering and Ladysmith Driftbusters Snowmobile Club is NOT GROOMED.

From Ladysmith Driftbusters trails will OPEN 1/2/2022 at 8:00am:

Conditions are POOR to FAIR. The groomer has not been through all trails. It will be rough with possible rocks, brush, sticks, and wet areas. Please ride with extreme caution. Ruts, swamps and creek crossings are not filled. While riding, please try not to single track as we need the trail packed wide to build the base. Groomers will continue to work the trails throughout the week but we need another round of snow to improve conditions. RIDE SAFE!

- DO NOT USE THORNAPPLE RIVER CROSSING.

- Corbett Lake swamp in town is froze but ugly...more cattails than snow on the trail.

- Trail 12/27 from JS Supper Club & Catering to Ladysmith is groomed and in fair condition.

- Trail 98 from Ladysmith to Conrath has been groomed and is in fair condition. There is one plowed field that is passable. A small, shallow open creek crossing was filled with snow. Hopefully will freeze in tonight.

- Trail 116 from Ladysmith to Tony has been groomed and is in fair condition. There are 2 plowed fields that should be avoided until more snow.

- Trail 12 (high line trail) from Ladysmith toward Adventures Resort-Bar, Grill, and Campground is NOT GROOMED.

- Trail 116 from Tony to Ingram is NOT GROOMED.

- Trail 27 from Ladysmith, past The Pickled Gill and Cedar Lodge to Winter Huskies Snowmobile Club Trail 5S is NOT GROOMED.

- Trail 99 from 5S to Flambeau River Lodge is very rough with beaver dam issues including a couple washed out culverts. Extra caution required! Continuing down to Tony, all of Trail 99 is NOT GROOMED.

Cross-Country Ski Trails

Blue Hills Trails report:

1/4/22 update: Just enough snow this past week to provide an adequate base, with just a bit of caution you can use your good skis. All the East Side trails are open. Classic track was set last Wednesday, it's present on the East Side Core Loop and several side trails including the Otter Slide / Far East network, the Whitetail, and the Roundabout Trails. Conditions for skating range from fair to good to very good. The skate deck has a variable quality - some trail segments are in great shape, other areas are occasionally soft or irregular, and in some areas the snow structure buckled under the weight of the grooming machines and it was hard to hide the tracks.

Some of the West Side trails were packed (rolled) for the first time on December 30th. They'll be soft but probably skiable. Until the West Side logging is done, you can access the West Side at Letter L. (West Side access currently is limited due to logging - READ THE IMPORTANT UPDATES INFO section).

Ladysmith Area Trails report:

12/26/21 Trail Update: Groomers are busy rolling and packing the 4 inches of snow we received last night.
