X-Country Ski Trail Update - January 28, 2009
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition. All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail System. Temps rose to the mid teens today (Wednesday, January 28), and skating conditions on the freshly groomed core loop were excellent (fast but controllable).  Off the core loop, the most heavily trafficked sections are more hardpack, but generally offer good edge control.  The classic tracks are well worn in, but very skiable.  A mild amount of surface litter is present throughout - fresh snow would be welcome.  Last Groomed: Wednesday (January 28) freshening the skating lane on the Eastside core loop.  With snow showers forecast for Thursday, more extensive grooming is planned Friday in anticipation of warmer temps this weekend.

Ladysmith Area Trails. January 26th Trail Update:  There has been no appreciable snowfall since Sisters’ Farm was groomed one week ago. The track and the eastside skate lane should still be in good condition. I touched up the skate lane at LHS and reset the classical track on the fields where it had drifted in and was run over by snowmobiles in one spot. Conditions should be very good. The lights at LHS are turned on from dusk until 10 p.m

Snowmobile Trail Update - January 28, 2009
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Snowmobile trails remain in decent shape throughout most of the County. Unfortunately there has been no recent snowfall, and even with routine grooming, trails are showing wear and tear in some areas. Better conditions can be found in the Blue Hills area and north of Ladysmith. Trails in town, the Island Lake area, and open fields do have rough spots. Snowfall is in the forecast and temperatures are expected to be a little better in the high teens and low twenties. Stop by this weekend’s Snowmobile event- a Brat Feed held by the Hawkins Sno-Hawks at the groomer shed in Hawkins on Trail 25.

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition. All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail System. Trail Conditions: Excellent skiing under cloudy skies with temps in the low 20s and hoar frost outlining the trees. Great edge control on packed powder getting faster by the day. You’ll be sick if you miss this - so look for any excuse to ski! Tuesday (January 20) using the G2s to create new corduroy on 99% of the Eastside.

Ladysmith Area Trails. January 19th Trail Update LHS was groomed for skating and striding yesterdayand conditions are very good with a dusting of new snow which has fallen since then. The east side of Sisters’ Farm (dual technique) was groomed today and conditions should be very good to excellent. The west side of Sisters’ has not been groomed as recently but the set track is skied in and should be good. The lights at LHS are turned on from dusk until 10 p.m

Snowmobile Trail Update - January 14, 2009
Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Snowmobile Trails remain in great shape throughout the County.  The area received another 4-5" of snow in the last week.  The new snow along with routine grooming, and cold temps has created optimum conditions for the trails.  The forecast includes a couple of frigid days, before warming for a seasonal weekend of temps in the low 20’s.  It should be a great weekend on the trails.  The first snowmobile club event of the year is this weekend as the Flambeau Trailtenders hold their annual Brat Feed at Flaters Resort on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Snowmobile Trail Update - January 9, 2009
Friday, January 9th, 2009

It continues to be a great snowmobiling year.  With a little new snow, continuous grooming, and cold temps, the trails are in awesome condition.  Groomers are reporting mostly good conditions throughout the County, with a few fair spots.  Trails in the Blue Hills area, North of Ladysmith, and in the Hawkins area are in particularly great shape.  Continued cold temps with an occassional snowfall forecast will keep the base solid, and continue the favorable sledding conditions.  Come out and ride.  Starting next weekend (Jan. 17) there will be snowmobile event every weekend until March.  If conditions do change, we will let you know.

Snowmobile Trail Update - January 4, 2009
Monday, January 5th, 2009

Snowmobile trails are reportedly in fair condition throughout the County, and saw a good deal of riding this past weekend.  Groomers have covered most trails more than once, and an additional 4" inches of snow Saturday night added to a well packed base.   Cool temps with additional snowfall forecast for the upcoming week will keep trails in great shape.
