Effective Monday, March 8, 2010 - Rusk County snowmobile trails are closed.  The warm weather has deteriorated trails throughout the County creating bare trails, standing water, open swamps and streams, and unsafe ice.  This is most likely the end of the snowmobile season, see you on the trails next year.

Snowmobile Trail Update - March 8, 2010
Many trails in the County are unrideable and it is planned that trails will close on Monday March 8. A continued stretch of warm temperatures days has deteriorated trails rapidly. Trails throughout the area are in very poor condition with exposed areas and standing water. It is anticipated that trails will continue to deteriorate with temperatures forecast in the 40’s through the weekend, with the potential of rain. Be advised that a couple of trails (NE of Ladysmith #99 and N. of Hawkins #25) have seen some damage from logging operations. Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions, consider no stream/river/lake safe.

Snowmobile Trail Update - March 3, 2010

A continued stretch of warm temperatures days has deteriorated trails rapidly.  Trails throughout the area are in poor condition with exposed areas and standing water.  It is anticipated that trails will continue to deteriorate with temperatures forecast in the 40’s through the weekend, with the potential of rain.  Trails at this time remain open, but that could change by the day. No grooming is occurring.  Be advised that a couple of trails (NE of Ladysmith #99 and North of Hawkins #25) have seen some damage from logging operations. Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions, consider no stream/river/lake safe.

Snowmobile Trail Update - February 24, 2010
Conditions are perfect in Rusk County. No new snow this week, but cool overnight temps with additional grooming have kept the trails in great shape. Groomers are reporting very good conditions throughout the County. The forecast again this weekend looks to be ideal for sledding with temps in the low thirties during the day and cold overnights. Be advised that a couple of trails (NE of Ladysmith) have seen some damage from logging operations. Time is running out on the season and there is no better time than now to get out and ride. Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions.

Conditions are perfect in Rusk County. Snowfall early in the week totaled 4-5 inches. Grooming along with the new snow and perfect temps have kept the trails in great shape. The forecast again this weekend looks to be ideal for sledding with temps in the high twenties during the day. Be advised that a couple of trails (NE of Ladysmith) have seen some damage from logging operations. There is no better time than now to get out and ride. Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions.

The conditions have only gotten better…. Last weekend was good–and busy– and with another 4 inches of snow already this week conditions are awesome. Continuous grooming along with perfect temps have set the trails up perfectly. The trail base is solid and groomers are reporting great conditions throughout the County. The forecast again this weekend looks to be ideal for sledding with temps in the 20’s during the day and a chance of light snow every day. Be advised that a couple of trails (NE of Ladysmith) have seen some damage from logging operations. There is no better time than now to get out and ride.  Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions.

The best conditions of the season can be found right now in Rusk County. The area received a few fresh inches of snow at the beginning of the week, and a couple more may fall before the weekend. The trail base is solid and groomers are reporting great conditions throughout the County. The forecast for the weekend, looks to be ideal for sledding with temps in the 20’s during the day and a chance of light snow every day. Groomers continue to work trails to create the best conditions, and areas in the County including the Blue Hills, Hawkins, Ladysmith, Sheldon, and Holcombe all report good trail conditions. There is no better time than now to get out and ride. Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions.

 A fresh snowfall has improved trails throughout the County.  The past weekend’s mixture of weather included four inches of wet heavy snow.  Trails are fair throughout the County with plenty of good trails.  Better conditions continue to be found in the Blue Hills and areas North of Ladysmith.  Groomers have packed the most recent snowfall and are reporting great conditions.  Trails in town and in exposed areas (fields) are still a little rough. More snow is in the forecast. There is no better time than now to get out and ride. Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions.

Again, no new snow in the last week with warmer than normal temps has resulted in a downgrade of the trails. Trails are in mostly fair condition throughout the County, with better conditions in the Blue Hills and Flambeau River State Forest areas. Trails in exposed areas, field crossing, road intersections and in town are in poor condition. A fresh snowfall would really help, and there is a chance of that happening this weekend. Groomers are continually working the trails, and report that the trail base appears to be solid. Snowmobile Trail Update - January 13, 2010
 No new snow in the last week, but conditions have remained fair to good, even with warmer temps.  Groomers are continually working the trails and are reporting mostly good conditions with some fair spots.  The trail base appears to be solid, and the good early season snow has maintained conditions.  Snow cover might be thin on exposed trails (field crossings), swamps, and road crossings.  Always ride with caution and be aware of changing conditions.
