X-Country Ski Trails Update - December 23, 2009
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

All cross-country trail systems are open and reporting good condition.  A little more snow covers the Blue Hills Trail system where the entire system is groomed for skating, and a classical track has been set on a shorter portion of the trails.  Good snow coverage, consistency, and texture are being reported from the Blue Hills groomers.

Groomers have also packed and rolled the Sisters Farm and Ladysmith Lighted Loop Trails (the lights are on!!).  A classical track will be set when more snow falls.

X-Country Ski Trail Update - December 11, 2009
Friday, December 11th, 2009

We received a healthy snowfall this past week of 4-8" throughout the County.  Early reports from the Blue Hills Trail groomers is that they have done the first grooming of the year.  Most of the core and beginner loop has been rolled and rock cover is reportedly good (rock skis still recommended) with only a little grass poking out.  The Trail Association does a great job of grooming and keeping us up to date on conditions and grooming schedules.  They post their timely updates on their website  http://www.bluehillstrail.com

X-Country Ski Trail Update - February 4, 2009
Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition. All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail System. Trail Conditions: Very good to excellent skating and striding yesterday (Wednesday, February 4) with a 1/4-inch dusting from Monday’s snow showers providing good edge control for skaters, and good grip for striders.  Sunshine and temps in the low teens accompanied the squeaky/noisy Styrofoam hardpack snow that offers solid pole plants and fairly fast conditions.  Only the most sun-exposed hills require your utmost attention to get a good edge during descent.  All the trails are groomed for skating, striders have about 25-28km of classic track at their disposal.

Ladysmith Area Trails. January 26th Trail Update There has been no appreciable snowfall since Sisters’ Farm was groomed one week ago. The track and the eastside skate lane should still be in good condition. I touched up the skate lane at LHS and reset the classical track on the fields where it had drifted in and was run over by snowmobiles in one spot. Conditions should be very good. The lights at LHS are turned on from dusk until 10 p.m

X-Country Ski Trail Update - January 28, 2009
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition. All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail System. Temps rose to the mid teens today (Wednesday, January 28), and skating conditions on the freshly groomed core loop were excellent (fast but controllable).  Off the core loop, the most heavily trafficked sections are more hardpack, but generally offer good edge control.  The classic tracks are well worn in, but very skiable.  A mild amount of surface litter is present throughout - fresh snow would be welcome.  Last Groomed: Wednesday (January 28) freshening the skating lane on the Eastside core loop.  With snow showers forecast for Thursday, more extensive grooming is planned Friday in anticipation of warmer temps this weekend.

Ladysmith Area Trails. January 26th Trail Update:  There has been no appreciable snowfall since Sisters’ Farm was groomed one week ago. The track and the eastside skate lane should still be in good condition. I touched up the skate lane at LHS and reset the classical track on the fields where it had drifted in and was run over by snowmobiles in one spot. Conditions should be very good. X-Country Ski Trails Update - January 21, 2009
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition. All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail System. Trail Conditions: Excellent skiing under cloudy skies with temps in the low 20s and hoar frost outlining the trees. Great edge control on packed powder getting faster by the day. You’ll be sick if you miss this - so look for any excuse to ski! Tuesday (January 20) using the G2s to create new corduroy on 99% of the Eastside.

Ladysmith Area Trails. January 19th Trail Update LHS was groomed for skating and striding yesterdayand conditions are very good with a dusting of new snow which has fallen since then. The east side of Sisters’ Farm (dual technique) was groomed today and conditions should be very good to excellent. The west side of Sisters’ has not been groomed as recently but the set track is skied in and should be good. The lights at LHS are turned on from dusk until 10 p.m

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition.  All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail SystemTrail Conditions: Very good to excellent skating and striding Monday (January 12) before 1-inch wind blown snowfall Monday afternoon/evening.  Snowfall forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday went south - when temperatures moderate, grooming will be attempted midday Friday (weather dependent). Last Groomed: Saturday (January 10) freshening the skate lane throughout, and adding classic track for a total of about 20-25 k of track.  As arctic air slides away, grooming will be attempted midday Friday (weather dependent).

Ladysmith Area Trails.  January 12th Trail Update. As of 8 p.m. about 1.5" of new snow has fallen today and I groomed that along with the light snow that has acculated over the last few days at LHS. The conditions there are very good with deep classic tracks and a level skate lane. I will update with information about Sisters’ Farm when I hear it. Plan for very low temperatures and wind chill for the next few days. The lights at LHS are turned on from dusk until 10 p.m.
