Snowmobile Trail Update – February 27, 2009
Friday, February 27th, 2009

Rusk County Snowmobile Trails are again open – effective immediately.  A good heavy 6"+ of snow was received overnight and should provide fair conditions for the weekend.  Groomers will be getting out on the trails today, and grooming throuh the weekend.  Get out and ride the second season… this weekends event is a Brat and Chili Feed at Reich’s Roadhouse in Sheldon, put on by the Sheldon Snowmobile Club.  As condition reports come in from the groomers, we’ll post updates here.

Snowmobile Trail Update – February 9, 2009 – Trails Closed
Monday, February 9th, 2009

All Rusk County Snowmobile Trails are closed until further notice.  Warm weather, with more high temps forecast, has deteriorated trails significantly.  Should cold temps with additional snowfall be received trails can reopen.  Check back as conditions change.  Scheduled snowmobile events will continue to be held.

X-Country Ski Trail Update – February 4, 2009
Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Cross Country Ski Trails throughout the County remain in Excellent condition. All trail systems are groomed for classical and skating.

Blue Hills Trail System. Trail Conditions: Very good to excellent skating and striding yesterday (Wednesday, February 4) with a 1/4-inch dusting from Monday’s snow showers providing good edge control for skaters, and good grip for striders.  Sunshine and temps in the low teens accompanied the squeaky/noisy Styrofoam hardpack snow that offers solid pole plants and fairly fast conditions.  Only the most sun-exposed hills require your utmost attention to get a good edge during descent.  All the trails are groomed for skating, striders have about 25-28km of classic track at their disposal.

Ladysmith Area Trails. January 26th Trail Update There has been no appreciable snowfall since Sisters’ Farm was groomed one week ago. The track and the eastside skate lane should still be in good condition. I touched up the skate lane at LHS and reset the classical track on the fields where it had drifted in and was run over by snowmobiles in one spot. Conditions should be very good. The lights at LHS are turned on from dusk until 10 p.m

Snowmobile Trail Update – February 4, 2009
Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Snowmobile Trail Update – February 4, 2009 Conditions unchanged from last week. Snowmobile trails remain in decent shape throughout most of the County. Unfortunately there has been no recent snowfall, and even with routine grooming, trails are showing wear and tear in some areas. Better conditions can be found in the Blue Hills area and north of Ladysmith. Trails in town, the Island Lake area, and open fields do have rough spots. Warm weather is in the forecast, so trails in exposed areas and adjacent to roads could show some additional deterioration throughout the weekend. This weekend’s snowmobile event is a Chili and Brat Feed by the Ladysmith Driftbusters. The Feed will be on Sat. Feb. 7th at the Flambeau Lodge northeast of Ladysmith.
